Special mention for Geert Geenen

Woophy SF choose 4 great honorable mentions in this month’s culture contest and from Woophy Rotterdam we would like to add one special mention, Santa in the mud.

Santa stuck in the mud made us really laugh. But at the same time it is a photo full of little messages and critics on contemporary culture. For instance what struck me about this picture is that you can clearly see that Santa has a second hand car. The truck used to be yellow and was possibly previously owned by the local cheese merchant.

    Thank you so much for choosing pictures that are a bit off-mainstream. I mean photos which are a piece of grey sludge thumbnail sized and only unfold their oopmph when looked at closely, large version. And some are even devoid of color, have a look at some of Debashis great b/w pics of otherwise color-blasting India.

    Just take the Santa pic, probably like most of us I only discovered it here and after Joris pointed at the hilarious details. Maybe woophy could set up something like a local-real-life-tab featuring selected photos like this one, navigable from the woophy map.

    And yes, JP and Terry, I enjoyed very much reading the chain of thoughts how you came up with the winning photo.

    Joris, thanks for the book, it came today and looks very posh. Will be the snowed-in Sunday afternoon coffeetable indulgence!
