Why is everyone leaving to Facebook!

Posted by elly holland on February 21st, 2011 | 13 comments | 423 views
I noticed a lot of members are leaving Woophy for Facebook.
I'm on Facebook too.
But I joined Woophy because my hobby is making pictures and I want to learn to make better pictures.
I already learned a lot I think by the comments people give me and I don't mind constructive critisim.
Now I see several members are leaving to Facebook.
Facebook is a social network and not a photosite,so I just want to stay on Woophy because of the contact with other people with the same hobby.
What do you think of this?
I just was curious what do you think of this?

There´s a big difference between FB and Woophy!
FB is like a metropolis full of strangers and Woophy like a village where everybody knows each other in a way or another!
I use FB for 3 reason:
1- The fastest way to keep in touch with my children in Europe (They check FB much more often than they check their e-mails, and they reply immediately!
2- To find people that I lost contact with. I´ve found a bunch of friends I had in Saudi Arabia in the 80´s and 90´s that were completely gone...
3- To share and learn photography!
The comments are not great, but in the other hand I see so many photographs of so many different styles and they inspire me to learn and try something new.
I´m still here! Celebrate 5 years in Woophy next May!

I stay with Woophy, its interesting to share pictures from places over the world ,also to learn about photograpy.I met nice friends on Woophy too.
Its amazing to see people leaving from Woophy ,what I heard for some it had to do with downrating .If we all are honest and help each other ,Woophy will be the best place for sharing pictures. Keep Woophy going!!!
Well done Elly to bring this up!

everything has been said facebook is no photo site its a community site so no i don't understand why anybody would post the pictures there. is it because of the chat? i don't no. i think that members who would like to post pictures and share information/give comments stay on Woohpy. i am staying off course.but its a free world do you like facebook? go post them there but are you getting the same comments and remarks, are your pictures being looked at? i don't thinks so.

    Greetings

In the past I had contact with other on line picture members Clubs, but I left, looking for some different, fast understanding and for pictures only: I met Woophy, I came in and I found a new photographic world, I met a lot of no expert members (like me) and a big number of amateur (sic!) members who could be really professionals to learn a lot of improving from..Well, here I am and in Woophy I want to stay...and here I have a lot of good friends.
    UP WITH WOOPHY!

It is a matter of choice. Woophy I love you, I'm here because of the photos, the friends, the companionship. I have no reward of Woophy but I'm staying here. I love friends and I'm sorry when someone leaves. Someone has a reason to leave, I'm sad. Someone comes back again and I'm happy. Life goes on.
    Sorry for my bad English.

Hi Elly, and the others replying so far
I'm staying on Woophy - won't be going to Facebook because I don't have an account there and never will (but that's a whole different story!!)
I have been away from Woophy for far too long due to various stresses and busy times at work and home - one of the delights when I came back to Woophy and started posting photos again was to see some of the same people still posting pics and commenting on the work of others who were here when I first joined (2006) - it felt rather like coming back to a long neglected club and finding the key members are still there and have kept things ticking along beautifully while you were away ;-)) It has also been great to discover lots of new and very talented people posting their work here.
I really enjoy looking through the wonderful work posted here because it allows me to discover new views of parts of the world that I will probably never be able to visit. I also really appreciate it when people take the time to comment on the work that I post here - helps me make better photos ;-))
I hope one day soon to find some time to get back to reading and contributing to the forum too - there have been some great fun threads running on there over the years.

... and facebook is not an alternative to woophy, even if we upload photos on it... (sorry ...)

I don't know why people are leaving from woophy. I'm also in facebook (everybody is...). My work don't give me much time now but still want to upload photos and have honest comments here on woophy. However there are some members who gives excelent comments and then they classified the photo as 3 or 2. And that I don't understand because that confuses me. Is the photo a good one or a bad one'. this kind of actitude is not ethic. But people are what they are and the competition is great to have their photos in the first place... Maybe this kind of acttude made some members leave woophy. I still believe in woophy and so... I will continue to learn from what I see, the great photos some upload and also with the bad photos we can see here. Sometimes is dificult to see them all because there are people with "thousands" of photos in only one day... but... I will not leave woophy and hope that a lot of members continue to upload there photos and participate in the meetings where we can discuss the photo matter... Next one is on the 16th and 17th april in Faro. I wait for you then.
    Thanks Elly.

I'm staying on Woophy, Elly. I do have a presence on Facebook, but I don't use that as a photo site, only as a social networking site. It's too bad that people are leaving such a wonderful site as Woophy. I always look forward to what others are posting [photos/comments] and want to improve my photography as well as share it with those who are interested in this art form.

There must be reasons why people do not longer favor Woophy and most likely we all can think of some flaws. Several members also left for ipernity.com. Of course there's a social layer underneath Woophy, too, but the emphasis rightheously is the part of being a photographic platform. Having been a member for so long already Woophy must have kept its attraction.. One has to be a little bit flexible, enjoy watching photos from all over the world, wanting learn from them and pick out the positive issues people are bringing in..I've tried elsewhere too, but Woophy is my nr. one. Ihope it stays thats way. Thanks for bringing up the subject. Elly.

I stay here Elly. because the pictures are my first interest. It happens all the time, people are getting bored, or think something is wrong on Woophy, and then they search for another place were they think thwy can find what they want. In the mean time there are a lot of new Woophymembers with new and inspiring pictures. So Woophy stays a lifely community.
