A picture of one of my dogs, this is my older dog, she has 7 years and I love her.
I have another dog but it is a "puppy", he is 11 months old and I never could take a good picture to him, he is so hyperactive.
They are mother and son and the race is "cimarrĂ³n" an Uruguayan race.
I love them, they are so beautifull ! : )

This is a fascinating "historical" forum post to read & make us think. The reason is that is starts at what must have been the "dawn" of Woophy, summer 2005. Then it went to sleep for more than 5 years until Jan Kolibri found it and revived it today (a witty addition - I guess you saw the pic of the giraffe and the following discussion, Jan). We learn how way back at the beginning, there were already disagreements & uncertainties about what and what not should be suitable photo subjects for Woophy. A good discussion, well answered by Joris. I include the following shots, simply because they all demonstrate animals that I have been able to observe within walking distance of my homes in Lisbon or Vila Franca de Xira. My point is that they are part of the local environment & I am always very conscious that I could never have seen them wherever I lived in London, except in the zoo, which is artificial, of course:

After reading some of the comments here I guess that I haven't been a welcome member of woophy for most of my time in this website then..... Most of my portfolio is about animals, but hey, that is my World of photography!!

Hi Igone, maybe you didn't saw it but this is a very old topic with old comments from 5 years ago. Read wat SJS said abiut it. Times are changed and your animals are very welcom on the site, because you show us a very fascinating world living in the oceans.

Fascinating conversation happening in this thread. It's age makes it all the more interesting now we have a chance to see how Woophy has evolved.
I love a well thought out and executed animal portrait. Let me repeat myself for emphasis. Well thought out and executed............. This, I think, is what Woophy is really after. Most well thought out and well edited shots have something to say about the world, culture, ways of thinking, etc, etc. It's the thoughtless endless uploading of similar shots taken at the same time that drive me mad.
Now that I have said all that, I'd better find a reasonable photo.
I'll try this non contextual Llama portrait (just to push the boundary, as I have wont to do). Of course this is a South american animal but it has become quite popular here in south eastern Australia as a 'paddock guard'. A small flock is placed in with the sheep and their strong urge to defend their territory and family has proved, for some, to be an effective defence against the feral fox.

Here's another question? Do birds count as animals?
Igone, please don't dare go!
