Hi everyone, I want to buy a new camera! The one I use now is good, but at night shooting with no flash in low light (street lights, concerts etc.) it must be kept completely still, or the image is blurred. I would like one I can hold and use with no flash, without using a tripod, and get nice sharp images. So my question is what kind of specifications am I looking for, and can anybody recommend any models? I want to spend from 200-300 euros. Thanks for any suggestions!

The best way to get (almost) sharp images is to get hold of a DSLR and a 50 mm f/1.8 You will not get crisp and sharp images, but getting sharp images in street light and conserts without tripod or other support is close to impossible. The Nokon D3 delivers excellent pictures (According to reviews) at 6400 ISO, but at a price of 4000 euros.

Hello Like Vidar say, to get sharp images in dark enviroments you need a tripod and a camera with a 3200 ASA minimum, for 200-300 euros I only can recomend PANASONIC Lumix DMC-FX35. for example because for this prices you have to much options.

Maark with my camera an Olympus E 510 I make reasonable nightshots in various preset modes like Nightshot, Nightshot + Portrait, Candle and Fireworks. If the objects are not moving those slow shutter speeds never will work well! I never use a tripod but I got a very steady hand, if I may say so. You can see the results in my portfolio. I am very satisfied with this Olympus camera, previously I had a Nikon D 70S. Unfortunately it is more than 300 Euro´s. My advise ask it for Christmas or just save a little longer!

Maark, can I suggest a monopod instead of a tripod? Very discreet, and can double as a walking stick if you hike. It will provide the stability you desire to a certain degree, especially if used with a remote trigger. A decent one is between €100 & €150.
