Jonny, I really like your idea, enthusiam, and new challenge to our photography capabilities, but please don't go "against" landscape! ) Anyway, landscape it's as natural (and human worked) as life and Earth, right? Ok, let's go, also, to some other directions (photographycaly speaking)!

Miguel, this is becoming very promising!

Thanks Miguel for defending "landscapes". It's quite underestimated how difficult it is to get a good landscape photo. By the way most paintings are landscapes too.

@ Ruud~ : I'd get sacked by Joris, I guess But if you come back with the UC... I promise

@Pansa: you're so right! An average landscape is somehow easy to get; a good one is somehow difficult; an excellent one is very difficult! Compo, light, colours, depth of field (or not), angle, subject, mood...
I myself, as a critic of my own photography, I know I can take better landscapes photos when I'm all alone! I know that sometimes I have to wait till several minutes (sometimes more than half an hour) to shot! I love nature and must feel alone with it. Almost listening to the silence... you know what I mean? (yes, Pansa, you do, for sure!). For my long term project of photographing the 23 portuguese Natural Reserves, I have been doing it for 18 years now!!! Well, let me stop here or I shouldn't stop "talking", and we have Spain-Germany on the tv in a few time

Oh, anyway, tomorrow Jonny will have some challenge for us! From him, I'm expecting having to photograph something like our pet in lingerie (nice combination ). Hey, Jonny, you are the best for ideas! Hugs, man!

Greets to you all from Porto,
Miguel

Hi there,

Finally I struggled me through this thread, and just in time as I notice, for some reason I didn't follow it.

But first of all, this is a most promising initiative and I'm glad you took it. I bet this will gain you a T-shirt

This kind of challenge will at least inspire to go out, or stay in depending on the kind of challenge, with their camera and shoot. Or at least they will have a look at their pics stored on their HDs and select one of those, they also will activate their creativity

I'm also glad you improved some things from your original idea;
- challenge runs on a monthly base instead of the original weekly base, wich will be much more managable for you yourself but also for any future host. And potential participants get a reasonable period of time (nearly 2 weeks) to shoot and proces some images before posting.
- It's only fair you dropped your 3rd rule. It would be a disadvantage and certainly not just to those who share their eif data honestly in comparison with those who don't. Uploading date however can be used to check if it's a "recent" pic.

I hope we are allowed to expect an argumented commentory on the winning picture, that would actually be really learnful to most members.
Btw are you going to announce a second and third place? Perhaps you could if the participation level is high enough...

Then did you think of a backup plan if succession fails? I mean what if the last winner doesn't want to become the next host? What if he does but forgets about it and thus doesn't post the initiating topic? And what about a host who runs the challenge smoothly but fails to point out a new winner?
I know I'm being sceptical but I just want to point out what weaknesses these kind of contests do have...

Personally I will get some inspiration by the challenge and hopefully use it... Although I can't promise to participate, I'm kinda bad with deadlines

Have fun you all

Grtz

Nivad i always look forward to your replies as they are very constructive and open.

I will have a 1st 2nd and third place ( no prizes for 2nd and 3rd just recognition )

I will email the winner with information on how to host and what they need to do ie dates of start and finish and will do that for every winner so it is kept running smooth, so i will still have an active part in the process just i wont interfere on the judging as that is the prize for the winner.

The contest has started view it here Challenge

To keep the actualcontest thread clean I'll ask it here,

How are you judging? Is it just the songtitle wich counts to judge the picture or is it the whole song?

Fly Away

Lenny Kravitz

I wish that I could fly into the sky, so very high
Just like a dragonfly
I'd fly above the trees over the seas in all degrees
To anywhere I please
Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Oh, I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Let's go and see the stars, the milky way or even Mars
Where it could just be ours
Let's fade into the sun
Let your spirit fly where we are one, just for a little fun
Oh, oh, oh, yeah!

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I got to get away
Feel I got to get away
Oh, oh, oh, yeah

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah, with you yeah yeah
Oh Yeah!

I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah, with you yeah
yeah
I got to get away

I want to get away
Yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah, with you yeah
yeah
I got to get away

Hey I am in, that is if it's ok to join you long teeth woophies?
Lets not get too ' frontal lobe' about rule 3. I like the idea of working on something after the challenge has been set.
I will abide by whatever, because I also understand when you have just the shot in an existing portfolio that revisiting those images is fun.
My feeling is those that stand to get the most out of it will stick to the rules. The quantity of people who will feel the need to try and stage anything without working to the spirit of the challenge are minimal and lack something. They will only ruin the fun if the rest of us provide the platform to argue.

So would you like an antipodean member in on the fun Phoenix et.al ? Please. Will wait with bated breath till the inaugural challenge. Vic.
